Installing Hotfixes

Each hotfix is distributed Zip archive which must be extracted using a utility such as WinZip. Before installing the hotfix, it is recommended that you first make a backup copy of the current version of the control and/or library being updated. Extract the contents of the archive into a temporary directory and read the text documentation that has been included with the software. This document will describe any changes made to the software, and provide additional information that may be needed for installation.

It is important to note that a hotfix is not a complete product release, and will typically only contain updated components, libraries and/or help files. The original version of the library or component that came with your product can be found in the Redist folder where you installed the software.

Registering ActiveX Controls

If you are updating an ActiveX control, it is recommended that you re-register them using the RegSvr32.exe utility. For example, to register the SocketTools 5.0 File Transfer Protocol ActiveX control, you could enter the following command at the command prompt:

regsvr32 c:\windows\system\csftpax5.ocx

You should then get a confirmation message that the control has been registered successfully. If you get an error message, this can indicate that one of the required support libraries is missing or outdated. It's recommended that you reinstall the product and then re-apply the update.

Note that you can also register the SocketTools ActiveX controls using the License Manager utility included with the product. Select the License Manager icon in the SocketTools folder, then select the control from the drop-down list and choose the Control | Register menu option. A message will be displayed that the control has been registered.
